It is a three day weekend here in Canterbury and we are making the most of it with a road trip to explore some more of the South Island. We drove down the center of the island making several stops along the way.
First Stop: Lake Tekapo, our stop here was a brief one. We walked along the lake shore taking in the view. The purple flowers that typically adorn the area weren’t in full bloom which was a bit of a bummer. There is also an observatory that does tours for star gazers…this is on the agenda for a future trip so stay tuned.
Second Stop: Lake Pukaki, we stopped here for a picnic lunch. If you fancy lunch with a view NZ is not short of them. Also, this was the setting for the “Lake Town” in the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.
Some Views Along The Way
Third Stop: Then we stopped in Tarras for a quick snack where I discovered Kapiti Sorbets…YUM!!! In addition to delicious treats, this little shop carries some interesting wares and is worth a browse.
Final Stop: We arrived in Alexandra, Central Otago where the air is dry (no humidity) and views are plenty. Tomorrow we explore some of the views. Stay Tuned!
